The Core Zen Teacher
Â
Our core teacher was unknown until 2020 when he decided to post Zen poetry and films on Instagram as a public artwork. This caused a stir and some interest from people around the world. He began answering questions about Zen online and eventually met with interested people to explore Enlightenment beyond the theory as a living practice. In 2021, he formed an online practice group to meet regularly and study Zen. In 2024, he founded the Zobzen School.
The name of the Instagram project is “zobzen”. He posted anonymously, so people online started calling him “Z” – this was a nickname that stuck. The man behind the project lives with his wife and children in the UK within a temperate rainforest, and his given name is “Boz”.
Boz began his study of meditation at age 16 as an apprentice of a Shingon Monk. He then studied with a variety of teachers from across the world – including Zen, Yoga, Tibetan Buddhism, Native American Wisdom Traditions, and various martial arts, including Aikido, Jujitsu, Iaido, and Wuji Boxing.
From the moment he discovered that Enlightenment was possible, he dedicated thousands of hours with the aim of having a direct taste of this state. Through deep dedication, Zen revealed itself, and he discovered the art of “No Self”. Returning to the direct perception of ultimate reality – entering the unknown through sitting, walking, standing, and lying down.
He teaches through koan study and a variety of quickening practices that bring about profound states of mind. He is able to teach both the fast way to deep insight and the gradual cultivation of a peaceful mind in daily life.
He also teaches a collection of one hundred simple practices for developing awareness and the dissolution of ego in everyday life within the Zobzen School – many of which he has developed himself, influenced by traditional practices, and created intuitively throughout 30 years of study.
